Training, guidance, and usability protocol design

Columbia University Libraries selected Usability Resources Inc to design a protocol to test a Citation Style Editor that they were creating in collaboration with Mendeley. They asked us to create the testing protocol, train staff to administer the study, and then work with library staff on analyzing and reporting the results.

After developing the protocol we ran a 1-day hands-on workshop on usability testing techniques with a several librarians.  Library staff then carried out their study using the protocol we developed; once the study was complete, we worked with the staff to analyze the data and develop a set of recommendations to improve the Citation Style Editor’s usability.  The staff later indicated the overall success of the project and credited the positive outcome to the guidance and foundational support provided by Usability Resources Inc throughout the study.
